Wall ClocksEvery room needs a focal point, and wall clocks fit the bill perfectly. Interestingly, just as the first thing you notice about someone's face will be their eyes, in a room eyes are naturally drawn towards symbolic representations of time - ie, the face of a wall clock. People notice wall clocks almost subconsciously. For instance, have you ever had a clock that's suddenly broken or been removed? I would wager a bet that for sometime afterwards, you perhaps still found yourself glancing up to read the time - for a split-second feeling surprised that the wall clock is no longer there. As we look at wall clocks more than we tend to look at pictures that may be gracing the walls in our house, it makes sense to turn the wall clock into a real feature. There are clocks available to fit all types and styles of décor, from shiny modern brushed steel clock faces, to convincingly aged wooden clocks - and everything in between. Large Wall ClocksIf you're looking for an impressive wall clock that will really make an impact, then why not consider one of the super large wall clocks. I personally love the giant 'station wall clocks' which can be found sized at around 65cm x 65cm. Obviously, a clock this big will require a reasonable amount of wall space, and generally look better in buildings with high ceilings. The large wall clocks generally also have much larger hands, along with their driving mechanisms. As a result they can be louder, which is something to keep in mind. However, for a lot of people the "tick factor" is a desirable feature rather than an annoyance. ![]() Small Wall ClocksOf course, not everyone has the room to hang such large clocks on their walls. However, there are plenty of smaller wall clocks that are just as spectacular. The key point is that the size of clock matches and fits the size of room perfectly - and if this is the case then a smaller wall clock will be no less impressive and still form a great focal point. In fact, many of the larger wall clocks are available in exactly the same style but as a small or medium sized alternative. Radio Controlled Wall ClocksIf you're a stickler for accurate time and never want to set it manually again, then you could always consider a radio controlled wall clock. The time on these clocks are set automatically, via a radio frequency. This is pretty "groovy" in a gadget sense and may make an excellent gift. But if you're buying for yourself, then I think the most important factor when choosing between wall clocks should be the style itself. Wall Clocks as Works of ArtAside from your own appreciation, I guarantee that visitors will notice and comment on an impressive wall clock. |
